HS2 Excavation Work Finds Murdered or Executed Iron Age Man

It’s not every day whilst at work you come across a skeleton, but that’s what happened to some excavation workers working on the new HS2 high speed railway, the skeleton was found face down buried in what was believed to be a deep ditch on the outskirts of Wendover, Buckinghamshire on the property of Wellwick Farm.

It is believed the skeleton was either murdered or executed because as his hands had been tied together, local archaeologist’s professor has said “it does remain a bit of mystery but there are not many reasons why you would end up face down in a ditch with your hands tied”.

Also close by to the site they found the remains of what was a circular monument of wooden posts that resemble the famous Stonehenge site in Wiltshire, with recent HS2 excavation work revealing human activity dating back around 4,000 years to around the Neolithic to Medieval period.

Archaeological work will carry on as excavation work continues on the route of the HS2 high speed railway, which won’t be long before it reaches the borders of Yorkshire, who knows what else they will discover along the way.

Yorkshire has had its fair share of archaeological finds after all this comes after the recent discovery of six bodies at the Guildhall in York of what is thought to be monks. It is believed the monks could date back to the 16th or even 15th century.
